Euphorbia Cowboy (Euphorbia abyssinica) cutting

$29.50

Euphorbia abyssinica often goes by the name “Euphorbia cowboy” or “Cowboy Cactus”. The latter name is a little confusing as it is not a cactus at all, but rather a tree-like Euphorbia from Northeast Africa.

The E.abyssinica is an excellent plant for pots and is particularly desirable due to its ability to grow healthily indoors, unlike many cactus species.

You will receive one 25-30cm cutting.

  • Endemic to Northeast Africa ranging from Northern Ethiopia and Northern Somalia to East Sudan (Red Sea Hills) where it is found in predominant quantities.

It grows in exposed areas in well-drained stony soils and in the crevices of rock faces of hills and slopes. Typically found in dry woodland and bushland and shrub savanna at 850 to 2200 m above sea level.

  • Give the plant an airy fast draining growing medium which mainly consists of non-organic material such as perlite, pumice, scoria and only a little soil.

Suitable in full sun, to full shade (indoors).

Repot in winter during dormancy to avoid plant shock.

Water regularly during the active growing season. No water should ever be allowed to stand around the roots. Keep almost completely dry in winter.

  • A moderately fast grower, and will quickly become a large landscape masterpiece with multiple architectural branches in just 3-5 years.

    Maximum height 4-5 metres.
